Translating astronomical data into three-dimensional objects “Interstellar Topographies” series is composed by large-scale haptic sculptures based on 3d models of interstellar phenomena being developed by NASA and other space agencies for the blind-visually impaired (BVI) community. Generating scaled-up replicas of these 3d models and employing them as sitting sculptures or playground-like objects, “interstellar topographies” are meant to be inhabited and tactilely experienced by the viewer-turned-dweller, heightening cosmic bodily awareness by physically perceiving the cosmos without prioritizing eyesight. Tracing a possible topology of human perception, the series explores and connects data analysis to sensory pleasure and bodily experience.
